EDITH ANDREWS ORNITHOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to students who have a desire to further their education in a field related to Ornithology.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance shall be graduating High School Seniors who are pursuing ongoing education opportunities in the horticulture field.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to $500 per year.

GARY AND GLENN DASILVA SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to a graduating senior who has been a member of the Nantucket High School Golf Team, or a graduating senior who will be attending a certified trade school after completion of High School.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance will be members of the senior class of Nantucket High School who will be graduating in good standing.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to at least $500 annually.



GERONIMO’S SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to students or community members interested in pursuing studies or training in an animal related field.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance shall be graduating High School Seniors or year-round Nantucket Residents who are pursuing ongoing education opportunities.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to, $1000 per year to the institution of the awardee’s choice.



JACK PIGNATO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to graduates of Nantucket High School who are furthering their education in the fields of math or science.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance are deserving graduates of NHS who are or will be majoring in mathematics or science, and who are looking to a career in education or medicine.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to, at least one $1500 award annually.

JEANETTE T. GARNEAU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to Nantucket High School seniors.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance will be High School seniors in good academic standing who plan to graduate at the end of the current school year.

Type and Amount of Aid

This $1000 scholarship for no more than 4 years will help foster and instill the need for community service and civic awareness in young people. The graduating senior, having attended NHS since the 9th grade, will be in good academic standing and be planning on attending an accredited program, college or university. Most importantly, this student will have performed extensive and meaningful community service hours while at NHS.

JUNE BARTLETT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The June Bartlett Scholarship Fund is to be awarded to a graduating Senior or former graduate of Nantucket High School who is pursuing an education in agricultural sciences. Concentration of studies may include plant and soil science, crop propagation and management, horticulture, animal science, agricultural economics, agricultural education and communication, sustainable agriculture, environmental sciences, or other related studies.

Student Eligibility

The student recipient will preferably be attending a university, or college (state or private), but may include students attending a technical or vocational institution. Recipients may also be engaged in individual agricultural internship programs. Type and Amount of Aid The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation to the institution of the awardee’s choice. The Advisory Committee may decide precise amount, usually $500-$1,000 with the intent of keeping the fund sustainable.

MAGICAL CHICKEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

Preference of the Magical Chicken Scholarship will be given to a student who has demonstrated interest and intends to pursue a degree in or related to Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology. If no such student exists in the graduating class, the award shall be presented to a student who has shown passion for technology, without the intention to pursue a related field. All applicants must be able to demonstrate a history of interest and engagement in such endeavors as computer programming, web design, video production, computer graphic design, music production, or similar technology related fields. However, if no such student exists then the scholarship should be opened to students who intend to pursue a degree in the area of music or the arts. If no such student exists, a student who has shown considerable interest and commitment to music or the arts shall then be considered.

Student Eligibility

The student recipient will preferably be attending a university, or college (state or private), but may include students attending a technical or vocational institution. A student can receive the scholarship only once for the duration of their program. They must apply for the scholarship their graduating year of high school. In the event that they defer a year from higher learning, the scholarship will be deferred as well.

Type and Amount of Aid

The aid will be issued annually as cash in the amount of approximately $1,000 to the institution of the awardee’s choice. The Advisory Committee may decide precise amount with the interest of keeping the fund sustainable.

NANTUCKET CULINARY ARTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to students who have demonstrated excellence in culinary arts.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance shall be Nantucket High School students who are pursuing ongoing education opportunities in the culinary arts field.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to at least $500 per year.

PAT MARTIN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the Pat Martin Scholarship Fund shall be to provide scholarships to a graduating senior or past graduate of Nantucket High School who demonstrates a spirit of giving through his/her extracurricular activities and interest in civic affairs.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance are graduating seniors or past graduates of Nantucket High School.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to the amount of scholarship as determined annually based on Fund performance. Past awards have been approximately $1,000 per year.

ROBERT & ALDA BARRETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

To provide scholarships to graduating Nantucket HS students with financial need (giving preference to previous recipients) seeking further education through universities, colleges, or trade or vocational schools. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a history of passion for detailed understanding of how things work, creative problem solving or inventing, or hands-on craftsmanship in the fields mechanical, electronics, or computer engineering, technology, or science, or the construction trades.

Student Eligibility

The applicants must have financial need, be attending a university, college, or trade or vocational school, be able to demonstrate passion for detailed understanding of how things work through school work, extracurricular project, or work experience in the fields of engineering, technology, science, or construction. Once a student is awarded the scholarship, they will be given preference for future awards up to a total maximum of 4 years.

Type and Amount of Aid

The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may be calculated annually based on the fund income performance. To preserve and build the principal and create sustainable fund no award may be given if the fund net income is less than $200 (the minimum award amount). As the fund balance and income grows awards may be increase proportionally to a maximum of $1000. Awards should be made to the institution of the awardee’ s choice unless a letter requesting another distribution method is received and approved by the board. For example: to purchase books, tools or other materials necessary to the awardee’s education.

WILLIAM H. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Purpose

The purpose of the William H. Brown Scholarship Fund shall be to provide two (2) scholarships of $5000 per year for four (4) years to two (2) graduating seniors who are Nantucket Residents. The Scholarship Advisory Committee will look for students who display creativity, moral integrity, curiosity and the desire to learn about and contribute to the grater world.

Student Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance shall be enrolled in a four year accredited college or university, and shall maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better in order to continue to qualify. While this scholarship is not awarded solely on the basis of need, the Advisory Committee may take applicants’ financial needs into consideration. To assist the Advisory Committee in making its selection, applicants will be asked to provide a personal essay of their own choosing, as well as an indication of potential areas of study.
