The Community Foundation for Nantucket (CFN), in partnership with Remain, is conducting a comprehensive Nonprofit Data Survey to capture a clear, accurate picture of the scope, capacity and needs of Nantucket’s nonprofit sector.
Designed by survey methodology expert Dr. Maria Watson of the University of Florida, the project will create a baseline dataset that can be tracked over time, offering valuable insight into how local organizations operate, serve and sustain themselves. The findings will give nonprofit leaders, community members and funders a deeper understanding of the sector’s strengths and challenges, informing strategic planning and collaboration.
With potential federal funding cuts anticipated in 2026, the data will also help the community anticipate and respond to the impacts, identify service gaps and strengthen advocacy for the critical programs and resources nonprofits provide.
“Nonprofits are at the heart of Nantucket’s year-round community,” said Sunny Daily, executive director of the Community Foundation for Nantucket. “By gathering reliable, consistent data, we can better understand the resources they need and make informed decisions to ensure these organizations continue to thrive.”
The survey will be distributed to all registered nonprofits on Nantucket this fall, with results compiled into a public report later this year. This resource will serve as a foundation for ongoing research and dialogue about the nonprofit’s role in sustaining the island’s year-round community.
