The swim is an important event to support cancer treatment and patient care on Nantucket through the Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) and Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON). Last year’s Swim Across America Nantucket raised over $185,000 and all of the net proceeds raised by the swim stayed on-island.
Swim Across America Nantucket funds vital services for local cancer patients, minimizing their need to travel for appointments, testing, and treatment. With these designated cancer support services now available here on Nantucket, our friends and neighbors who are fighting cancer will experience less anxiety and disruption of their lives. Cancer patients on Nantucket frequently engage in hours of taxing travel (often with a supportive companion/spouse) for a 15 minute appointment. There are no alternatives. NCH’s affiliate relationship with Mass General Hospital now allows for world class care by MGH oncologists who now come to Nantucket, as well as labs, imaging and an array of treatments on island while supported by their friends, family, and primary care providers. PASCON targets the same population offering supportive services very beneficial to their healing.
