The Community Foundation for Nantucket (CFN) is proud to announce the expansion of the Senior Medical Travel Fund, ensuring continued access to medical transportation assistance for Nantucket seniors. Originally launched in 2023 with a $6,000 grant from the State of Massachusetts and then it expanded in 2024 with a $100,000 gift from Bonnie and Peter McCausland, The McCausland Foundation. The fund has now received an additional $100,000 from the McCausland Foundation, further strengthening its ability to meet the critical travel needs of the island’s senior population.
“CFN expresses appreciation to the McCausland family for their continued compassionate philanthropy in support of the Senior Medical Travel Fund managed by the Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs.”
The grants will be awarded in partnership with the Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs. Seniors aged 60 and older who are year-round residents may apply for travel expense assistance related to off-island medical appointments as well as on-island critical travel needs, including taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts. Applicants may receive up to $500 per person per trip for on- and off-island travel reimbursement.
As the senior population continues to grow and healthcare needs evolve, this fund replenishes the travel grant and ensures that all seniors can access the care they need. The Community Foundation for Nantucket remains committed to supporting the island’s year-round residents by fostering initiatives that improve quality of life and long-term well-being.
