Senior Medical Travel Fund

The Community Foundation for Nantucket is proud to announce the launch of a new fund in an effort to assist seniors with medical transportation expenses. The senior medical travel fund will open by May 1 with a $100,000 gift from McCausland Foundation. The McCausland Foundation has also pledged a dollar-for-dollar match up to an additional $100,000 through November 30, 2024.

Chris McCausland and Lizzie Salata commented on behalf of McCausland Foundation, “We read about the expiration of the travel grant and decided that the seniors who have relied on the program should be supported by the community. We are happy to work with the Community Foundation for Nantucket to make it happen.” The grants will be awarded in partnership with the Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs.

To apply, seniors 60 years and older who are year-round residents must complete an application for travel expenses related to off-island medical appointments and critical travel needs including on-island taxis, Uber, and Lyft through the Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs. Seniors may apply for up to $500 per person per trip for on and off-island travel reimbursement. As the senior population continues to grow and healthcare needs evolve, we recognize the importance of empowering seniors to access medical care that meets their unique needs. This fund replenishes the expired travel grant and works to ensure that all seniors can access the care they need.
