Community Scholarships Supporting Continuing Education

The Community Foundation is honored to have a variety of scholarship funds established by individuals and groups of donors for the purpose of helping younger generations of Nantucketers further their education. Each fund is unique, and the Foundation works with donors to ensure that the criteria and goals of the scholarship align with their charitable interests.

2024 Applications are closed, next year’s applications open in winter.

    • April 1 – Scholarship Applications due
    • Mid May – Decisions will be sent to recipients
    • Early June- Scholarship Award Reception for recipients

Purpose

To fund scholarships for Nantucket High School seniors who are attending a certified trade school. Award amount is $1500 per year.

Eligibility

Nantucket High School seniors who will be graduating in good standing.

Henry W. Fee, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

To fund scholarships for friendly, hardworking, entrepreneurial NHS seniors or graduates who strive to be active members of the workforce or play important roles in small businesses on Nantucket. Award amount is $1000 per year for four (4) years.

Seniors or graduates of Nantucket High School.

Jaeger Family – NiSHA Scholarship

Purpose

To provide scholarships for Nantucket students and community residents applying to or currently enrolled in college or institutions of higher learning. Students should be interested in pursuing studies or training in any interdisciplinary study that positively impacts animals, improves their life or environment, embraces humane thinking and compassion, advocates for animals, and supports their intrinsic value. Award amount is $2500.

Eligibility

Nantucket High School Seniors and former Nantucket students or year-round Nantucket residents pursuing ongoing educational opportunities.

James F. Lentowski Conservation Scholarship

Purpose

To provide educational opportunities to individuals pursuing environmental studies i.e. marine, agriculture, conservation, biology or wildlife. The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation and may include, but is not necessarily limited to, $1000 per year.

Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance: Nantucket residents pursuing studies in the fields above.

Magical Chicken Scholarship

Purpose

To provide scholarships for Nantucket High School seniors who have demonstrated interest and intends to pursue a degree in or related to Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology. If no student pursuing a related field exists, the award goes to a student with a passion for technology. However, all applicants must demonstrate a history of interest and engagement in a technology-related field. Award amount is $4000 per year.

Eligibility

Nantucket High School seniors. A student can receive the scholarship only once for the duration of their program.

Michael J. Roche, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

To provide scholarships to individuals pursuing further education in Environmental Science, Wildlife Management & Conservation, Animal Health & Behavior, Marine Science, Captive Wildlife Care, Forestry, Plant Biology, Ecology or other areas in the scope of Michael’s passion should apply.

Special consideration may be given to students attending Unity Environmental University in Maine, Michael’s alma mater.

Sally Roberts Mentor Scholarship

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide a scholarship to a student who plans to pursue a career enriching the lives of children (education, social work, etc.). Special consideration will be given to any student that participated in or volunteered /worked for a Mentoring Youth Program. Award amount is at least $1000 per year.

Eligibility

Seniors of Nantucket High School who plan to pursue a career enriching the lives of children and have volunteered in children’s programming on Nantucket, with special consideration given to any student that participated in or volunteered /worked for a Mentoring Youth Program

Shredder’s Studio Art Scholarship

Purpose

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to fund all or any portion of the college tuition of any graduate of Nantucket High School pursuing a degree in fine arts and/or art therapy.

Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance shall be any past or present Nantucket High School graduate who is pursuing a degree (including, but not limited to, a BA, BFA, MA, MFA, and/or PhD) in fine arts including, but not limited to, visual arts, painting (such as watercolors, oils, acrylics, and pastels), sculpture, ceramics, drawing, film making, photography, fabric arts, graphic design, architecture, jewelry making, printmaking, and/or art therapy.

Emily Stover Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

To provide scholarships to upstanding Nantucket community members who are passionate about helping others and who have chosen a career path with this intention in mind. Award amount is $2,000 per year.

Baxter Waldman Memorial Scholarship

Baxter was a loyal, confident, caring, and driven young man that had a zest for life who did everything in his power to reach his goals no matter what stood in his way. Through this scholarship we hope to support students with similar qualities who are involved in their school and community as team member, working outside of school, and determined to do what they love. Eligibility

The students eligible for assistance are graduating seniors whose primary residence is Nantucket.

To provide scholarships to a passionate, hardworking, and honorable Nantucket Community Member who is pursuing training or education in the Theater Arts. Scholarships are only available to individuals attending an accredited or professional performing arts training program, college or university. Award amount is at least $1000.
