As part of its 2025 grant cycle, the Remain Fund has distributed a new
round of grants to 38 local organizations through the Community Foundation for Nantucket.
These grants reflect a shared commitment to shaping a resilient, connected and vibrant island
communityโand bring the total awarded since the Fundโs inception in 2016 to $4.41 million.
This yearโs grants support a wide range of community-driven initiatives and events designed to
enrich life on Nantucket. They assist local nonprofits with strategic planning, programming for
seniors, kindergarten readiness and advancing green energy and preservation projects across
the island.
Funding is also enhancing access to cultural events and creative programs, such as
opportunities for students to engage with the Nantucket Dance Festival, supporting the
Nantucket Island Fair and helping youth filmmakers participate in the Teen View Program at the
30th Annual Nantucket Film Festival, alongside the launch of El Pingรผino, a new
Spanish-language radio station for the local community.
Educational convenings, including the Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative Research Conference
and the Climate Change Summit, are also receiving support to advance scientific research of
the island’s unique and fragile ecosystems while sharing findings with stakeholders and the
community.
โThe Remain Fund supports initiatives that reflect a shared vision for a thriving Nantucket by
leveraging the islandโs unique strengthsโits people and its environment,โ said Sunny Daily,
executive director of the Community Foundation for Nantucket. โWeโre honored to apply our
experience in evaluating grants and measuring impact to help advance projects focused on
climate resilience, professional development and year-round cultural engagement.โ
The Remain Fund was established to advance Remainโs broader mission: to foster a healthy
year-round community and resilient local economy through support for nonprofit organizations
that address pressing environmental, social and cultural challenges. It is one of several ways
Remain works to bring creative thinking to Nantucketโs most complex issues. Funding is
provided by Remain, and grants are managed by the Community Foundation for Nantucket.
โThe grants give us interesting insight into the priorities of the islandโs nonprofits,โ said Cecil
Barron Jensen, executive director of Remain. โIt is inspiring to see the collaboration and the genuine desire to make the island a better, more resilient place to live for the year-round community and more vibrant for our seasonal visitors. We look forward to following along with the programs and projects throughout the year.โ
