Michael was an avid outdoorsman who applied his education in Environmental Science to his everyday life in the vast, rugged state of Alaska. Through his love of nature, a hike with Michael frequently included an education on the local flora and identification of wildlife through observation of animal tracks left on the forest floor.
Michael had a deep connection to Nantucket, where his parents have resided for more than 30 years, and he enjoyed many of the island’s trails, conservation land, beaches, and wildlife. Michael was described as “Wild at Heart, Deep in Thought, and Calm in Spirit”.
Through this scholarship, we hope to keep Michael’s love of wildlife, dendrology, nature, and critical care of the environment alive through students who share the same passions. Special consideration may be given to students attending Unity Environmental University in Maine, Michael’s alma mater.
