The JL and Donna Fox Scholarship was created to honor these two community-minded people. They have spent their lives doing for others. Their efforts reflect a model of service that came very naturally to all who know them or their work.
As a carpenter by trade, JL would never hesitate to jump in and assist any and every one. He worked on the Parks and Recreation Commission here for years.
Donna was a friendly face who was always warm and engaging at the front desk of Tresses Salon. For years, she also worked for the Unemployment Office. She took pride in supporting those who needed assistance.
As parents of four and grandparents of six, these two never missed a game that their family participated in. And, as avid sports fans, they attended plenty of Whaler games where no family members were playing. Again, more evidence of community support.
This scholarship has been created to honor both JL and Donna while truly supporting a local student in their further studies. The recipient of this award needs to be a person who exemplifies putting community service in the forefront of their lives. While academic success is important, it takes a back seat to those who support the Nantucket community.
