he Nantucket Alumni Soccer Union (NASU) aims to form an alumni group to bolster current high school soccer teams by linking alumni with players as mentors and scholarship supporters. NASU will engage alumni from both the boys and girls programs through events like socials, pickup games, barbecues, coaching, and youth clinics. Through fundraising, NASU will develop a website and database chronicling the history and accomplishments of the boys and girls programs. Outreach efforts will target alumni from the programs’ beginnings in the mid-1990s, using direct emails and social media. The highlight will be a formal ceremony at the close of the high school soccer season, where graduating seniors will receive scarves—a cherished soccer tradition. This “scarving” ceremony will celebrate players transitioning to their next phase, with NASU intending to extend this honor to all past Whaler soccer players.
