For the last two years, a group of ‘Sconset residents have been working with the Nantucket Land Bank to create a play area for children and families to congregate and play amid the natural beauty of Codfish Park. The team, which includes local landscape designer, Julie Jordin of Garden Design Company and Fred Martin of Environment Design, envisions a space that will not only inspire healthy physical activity and play but also elicit a connectedness to nature, including a butterfly habitat. They have developed an ADA accessible design with wooden structures that call on ‘Sconset’s unique history and aesthetic, including a small-scale Sankaty Lighthouse and a nautical rope climber. Families can also expect swings and benches with views of the ‘Sconset beach and Atlantic Ocean – restoring to the village the playground that once was.
