Community Foundation for Nantucket passes $1 million in grants

In 2013, with the support of all of our year round and seasonal Nantucketers, the Community Foundation for Nantucket passed the $1,000,000 mark in grants made to nonprofits since the Foundation’s start on Nantucket 8 years ago. Over $450,000 of these grants were distributed in 2013, demonstrating the Foundation’s growth as part of the charitable landscape. These grants were made possible by generous donors who used the Foundation as part of their charitable giving plan, and the majority went to nonprofit activities on the Island.

In addition to grants directed by donors in 2013, last year over $52,000 was donated by Nantucketers to the Community Grants Fund, a wonderful community-wide effort. Grants were then distributed at the discretion of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees to 25 different Island charities to help them accomplish their missions. For 2014, the Community Foundation has a goal to double the size of the Community Grants Fund, so that over $100,000 can be given in support our Island’s nonprofit community.
