June Bartlett Scholarship Fund

John H. Bartlett, Jr. was a fourth generation Nantucket farmer who began his farming at home as a boy on Ocean View Farm and lived by the Golden Rule. Nicknamed “June”, for Junior”, he was educated in the Nantucket Public School system. He graduated with the first graduating class from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in 1918 and spent his lifetime farming on Nantucket. Upon his death in 1975 an overwhelming outpouring of appreciation for his life and his love for the land resulted in the erection of the monument in his honor on Main Street. At that time his family, now in its seventh generation, chose to use the remaining funds to create a scholarship in his honor to benefit Nantucket High School seniors and graduates wishing to further their education in agricultural sciences.
