Jaeger Family – NiSHA Scholarship Fund

In the fall of 1990, Jan Jaeger moved to Nantucket along with her husband Fred, the newly-selected Manager for the Nantucket Memorial Airport, their dog, Geronimo, and two cats. After realizing Nantucket offered extremely limited opportunity for purchasing quality pet supplies on the island, six months later Jan opened Geronimo’s, a pet supply retail shop. Serving the needs of the pets of Nantucket for almost 30 years, Jan sold this business to her two long-time managers in 2017, who continue the tradition of offering quality pet supplies and services.

In 2012, recognizing a shortage of resources within our community, Geronimo’s established a scholarship in an effort to encourage island students to pursue advanced studies in animal-related fields.  As a founding Board member of the island’s animal shelter, Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals (NiSHA), Jaeger is now proud to collaborate with this organization in continuing to provide scholarship opportunities for island students interested in animal-related education.
