Nantucket Nepalese Relief Fund

APTOPIX Nepal EarthquakeOn Saturday, April 24, 2015, a 7.8-magnitude quake struck the country of Nepal, killing more than 5,000 people and injuring at least 10,000. The UN says more than eight million people have been affected and some 70,000 houses have been destroyed. Although aid is starting to get through, some people in remote areas closest to the epicenter of the quake are stranded without shelter, food or water.

The Nepalese community on Nantucket seeks the love and support of fellow islanders at this difficult time, and ask that concerned friends, neighbors, and citizens help in the urgently needed relief efforts in Nepal by donating any dollar amount to the Nantucket Nepalese Relief Fund. These funds will be evenly distributed to the Red Cross and Doctors without Borders and their relief efforts in Nepal.

In the wake of the NHA’s “Our Nantucket: Celebration of Nepal”, a standing-room only, community-wide celebration of diversity and Nepalese culture at the Nantucket Whaling Museum a mere 12 days before the earthquake, Nantucketers have never been better positioned to help our Nepalese friends and neighbors in their time of need.

Thank you and Namaste.
