Featuring 2017 Nantucket Scholarships

As we send our students back to school, we wanted to acknowledge our scholarship recipients. This year, the Community Foundation for Nantucket was proud to award 45,500 in scholarship funds to 20 local students pursuing higher education. Featuring the Adaptive Water Sports Program with Community Sailing & Nantucket STAR

The Nantucket Fund™ awarded a grant in 2016 to Nantucket Community Sailing and Nantucket S.T.A.R. (Sports & Therapeutic Accessible Recreation) for therapeutic watersports lessons in a collaboration called the Adaptive WaterSports Program. The grant was used to provide watersports activities in 2017 on a weekly basis in July in addition to a full week of programming in August.

Featuring The Food Pantry’s Fresh Produce Program

This year the Nantucket Fund™ grant dollars supported the Fresh Produce Program through the Nantucket Food Pantry. The program offers free access to fresh produce from local Nantucket farms to our neighbors who use the assistance of the Food Pantry.  Through partnerships with existing local farms and backyard gardeners, the Nantucket Food Pantry is able to offer more nutritious food choices, contributing to the overall health and wellness of our community.

Featuring the 11th Annual Grant Recipient Breakfast

On July 11th, at the Nantucket Hotel, we held our annual Nantucket Fund™ Grant Recipient Breakfast. The event was sponsored by BNY Mellon Wealth Management. This year, we had the pleasure of awarding $160,475 to 22 nonprofit recipients.

Annually CFN convenes members of the Nantucket community to identify and discuss the most pressing current needs, a practice that allows our Grants Committee to be strategic in grant making around priorities set by our community. Here is where our grant dollars were directed this year.

Featuring the Nantucket Science Festival

17425177_1289780721108738_6785513713914437660_nThe Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association and the Nantucket Community School hosted the Third Annual Nantucket Science Festival on March 18, 2017 at the Cyrus Pierce Middle School. The event was made possible in part by a grant from our  Nantucket Fund™. This fund is the Foundation’s unrestricted source to provide community grants to financially support and focus attention on the island’s most critical needs and initiatives.  The steady crowd at this year’s festival demonstrates an immense interest in science education within our community.   Continue reading

One Book One Island 2017


One Book One Island is a collaborative project of community partners and sponsors on Nantucket which seeks to promote reading, literacy and community by encouraging the entire population of Nantucket to read, discuss, and reflect on the same book. In addition, the project is designed to foster the importance of life-long learning for children and adults and to provide multiple opportunities for cultural enrichment in the community.
